History and Design of the North Korean Flag
The North Korean flag was officially defined in Article 170 of Chapter VII of the North Korean constitution. It consists of a wide red central stripe separated from two horizontal stripes of blue by thinner stripes of white. Off-centre toward the hoist is a white disk with a five-pointed red star.
Symbolism of the North Korean Flag
The red panel bordered by narrow white stripes represents the revolutionary traditions of the country. The red star symbolizes the guiding role of the Workers' Party of Korea. The blue stripes represent the unity of the Korean people and the sea that surrounds the country.
