Edmonton Oilers Top Florida Panthers In Game 1 Of Stanley Cup Final

SUNRISE, Fla. - The Edmonton Oilers took an early lead in the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night, defeating the Florida Panthers 4-2 in Game 1.

Tyson Barrie led the way for the Oilers with two goals, while Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl each added a goal and an assist.

The Panthers got on the board first when Carter Verhaeghe scored a power-play goal at 10:34 of the first period.

The Oilers tied the game later in the period when Barrie scored his first goal of the game.

The Oilers took the lead for good in the second period when McDavid scored a power-play goal at 12:39.

Barrie added his second goal of the game at 19:09 of the second period to give the Oilers a 3-1 lead.

The Panthers cut the lead to 3-2 when Sam Bennett scored a goal at 11:37 of the third period.

However, the Oilers iced the game when Draisaitl scored an empty-net goal with 1:09 remaining in the game.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 38 saves for the Panthers, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Oilers' offense.

Mike Smith made 28 saves for the Oilers.

Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final will be played in Sunrise, Florida, on Friday night.
